The New Life literacy project aims to help children and families by enabling parents to be more aware of important matters and to give them a better appreciation of life.
At present more than 63 percent of adults in Dhading district are unable to read and write. This is much higher than in other districts. The intention is to run courses in every village so that indigenous, ethnic and tribal people have the chance to learn. The project is open to all. There is no discrimination between men and women, age, or on the basis of caste, creed or economic situation.
The program is meaningful in the following ways:
- To bring awareness in the field of sanitation.
- To enable them to read daily newspapers and take part in development works.
- They will know the value of education and the importance of sending their children to school.
- To learn how best to use the money they have.
- To bring the concept of family planning.
- To further enhance their daily lives.
- To bring awareness of sexual disease.
Current Classes:
We have completed 4 classes in the different villages of Dhading District until end of 2006 they were really practical & helpful, due to lack of resources we were unable to have any classes in 2007. We hope we could do more classes in 2008 and onwards. The classes last for 9 months and are very practical for daily life. We train our own teachers and provide both students' and teachers' supplies. Each year we expect to offer more courses subject to finance being available.
Finance:
We need about $1,200 to purchases materials teacher paying and including teacher training for a nine months class. You are encouraged to help us in this work. |
